Refugee Camps
As of end of 2013, the UN reports there are 35 million refugees, Internally Displaced Persons, and asylum seekers in the world. The majority are women and children. Women and girls are frequently exposed to risk of violence. They live in 170 countries. Most have been refugees for more than a decade.
Refugees endure precarious living conditions, chronic stress, physical & mental health problems, encampment, no access to cash, food insecurity, loss of control over their own life, no right to work, no sovereign protection.
This could be different. This can – and must – change Now. Let’s work together to give refugees the right to work and the right to earn their own living.
Cities of Refuge is a vision that is happening now. You can be part of this dramatically life changing program.

Ongoing
Work is underway to examine the feasibility of implementing a formal mental health training program at the University of N’Djamena to increase knowledge of mental health among medical school students
Needs in Eastern Chad
Local health care workers in eastern Chad are servicing more than 39,000 Darfur refugees living in United Nations’ refugee camps. An exploratory research design was used, virtually, to examine the current mental health knowledge of health workers in the refugee camps of Guereda, serving Darfur refugees, in 2012. It was determined that there is a high need for further training, screening, and differential diagnoses of psychological disorders. Work is underway to explore the feasibility of implementing a virtual training program for local health care workers to provide mental health services to this population.
